John Otway Big Band brings the eccentric songs and irrepressible personality of British singer songwriter John Otway to the stage with the added power of a full band. Otway first attracted national attention in the 1970s and became known for combining rock music with physical comedy, self deprecating humour and an extraordinary determination to entertain. His long career has turned him into one of British music's most distinctive cult performers.
Songs including "Really Free", recorded with Wild Willy Barrett, helped establish Otway's reputation, but his story has always extended far beyond individual records. Through inventive promotion, devoted audience support and a willingness to turn career setbacks into part of the entertainment, he has created a relationship with fans that is unusual even by cult music standards. The Big Band format gives his catalogue a fuller musical setting while preserving the humour and unpredictability at its heart.
Live performance is where John Otway's combination of music and comedy truly comes alive. A John Otway Big Band concert can move between rock songs, stories, visual humour and unexpected moments, with Otway's energetic stage presence keeping audiences involved throughout. For longtime followers and newcomers looking for a concert with genuine character, John Otway Big Band offers an entertaining celebration of British rock eccentricity and enduring showmanship.
