KOLOR is a Hong Kong-based male band formed in 2005, currently consisting of vocalist SAMMY (Su Haocai), guitarist ROBIN (Luo Haobin), bass player A Sheng/Singz (Xie Risheng), and drummer MICHAEL (Zhu Weichu). Former bass player Gao Feng (Gao Yaofeng) withdrew in 2013, replaced by Ah Sheng (Xie Risheng).
The band's name is derived from the English word "Color," symbolizing the varied musical elements they incorporate. KOLOR originated from members of Linji, Tat Flip, and Nothing None, initially focusing on rock and nu-metal genres.
They view music as a painter views colors, using different elements to express thoughts and feelings, leading to innovative compositions. Formerly managed by Beyond bassist Huang Jiaqiang, they gained recognition with their debut album "Color" in 2007, winning the "Bronze Award for the Most Powerful Group" at the "2007 Top Music Popular Chart Award Ceremony."
Over the years, KOLOR independently produced albums like "Surrealism" (2009) and "Independence" (2013), gaining positive responses. They adopted the "Law of 14," releasing singles on the 14th of every month. In 2020, they disclosed that artist Yuan Wenjie funded the "Looking for Cause and Effect" music video.
Performing at the SIMPLE LIFE concert in Taiwan (2010) and collaborating with 24 HERBS, KOLOR released their fourth album "As Simple As." They achieved chart success with songs like "Foolish Old Man" and "Philadelphia Experiment," winning TVB's Golden Song Chart.
In 2012, their "Law of 14" concert sold out, followed by a praised concert with the Perth Wind Orchestra. After bassist Gao Yaofeng's departure in 2013, new member Xie Risheng joined.
They commemorated their 41-month journey with the "Kollective Memories 41" concert in 2015 and continued releasing albums like "TWISTED" (2016) and "Advance and Retreat" (2020). KOLOR received acclaim for "The First Old Man" in 2019.
Despite challenges posed by the epidemic, they held a successful online concert in 2020 and planned concerts for 2021. KOLOR's resilience and creative output continue to make them a prominent force in Hong Kong's music scene.
