(June 14, 2023) - Lauren Auder announces her debut album, the infinite spine, which is set to release on July 21st via True Panther Records. Alongside the announcement, she shares two new songs as an a/b single, “hawthorne81/atoms” paired with visualizers.
When asked to describe these songs, Auder says “it’s too easy to refute the material, it won’t make you above it” about the striking and spiritual call that is “hawthorne81”. Speaking to the ballad “atoms,” which closes with an epic marching band-fueled coda she notes that it is, “a comforting thought, we aren’t responsible for this world.” Through the visuals for "hawthorne81" and "atoms", Auder provides a visual interpretation of the somber and intimate tone that serves as the foundation of her latest offerings, The new songs follow the previously released “we2assume2many2roles,” which was Auder’s first new material since 2021 and first tease of what the album will sound like.
Written over the past four years, mostly in London where Auder currently resides as well as her childhood hometown in the south of France, the twelve tracks are a fully-formed collection that represents a body finally becoming whole. It reflects the heaviness and celebration that comes with surviving in a world that leaves you to forge your own path, as Auder was haunted by the question "what if we could rewrite history?" throughout its creation.
In this context, Auder declares that "pop music is meant to be experienced openly," discarding the intentionally enigmatic elements that characterized her previous releases. Its imagery evokes her own struggles as a woman, and everything glows with unbridled emotion, a reflection of Auder's inner conflict. As the infinite spine unravels, it also imagines a utopian future in which blame does not exist.
