Liars are an experimental music project led by Australian musician Angus Andrew, known for constantly reshaping their sound across alternative rock, electronic music, post punk and noise. Formed around the turn of the millennium, Liars emerged from the creative underground with an adventurous approach that resisted straightforward classification. Reinvention has remained central to the project, with each period exploring different combinations of rhythm, electronics, guitars and unconventional production.
Albums including They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, Drum's Not Dead, WIXIW and Mess demonstrate the remarkable range of the Liars catalogue. The music can shift from abrasive and rhythmically intense to atmospheric and electronic, often within the same creative period. This willingness to experiment has helped Liars maintain a distinctive position within independent music while continually offering listeners something unexpected.
Live, Liars bring that experimental spirit to the stage through performances where rhythm, noise, electronics and physical energy interact in unpredictable ways. Songs can gain new textures and intensity in concert, emphasising the project's interest in transformation rather than simple reproduction of studio recordings. For audiences drawn to adventurous alternative music and artists who challenge familiar conventions, a Liars concert offers an immersive encounter with one of experimental rock's most consistently evolving projects.
