Brazilian singer-songwriter, Luedji Luna, creates music which surveys and celebrates the connections between her home country and her African roots, addressing the many ways in which Afro-Brazilians and women are marginalized in Brazil and beyond.
Luna presides over a sound as expansive as the distances it embodies, as Afro-Brazilian rhythms and other traditional sounds meld with familiar strains of R&B, jazz, and electronic beats.
Her 2019 album, Um Corpo No Mundo, mixes her politics with romance, nature and a nod to the gods creating a mixing pot of emotive storytelling and dreamy production.
Uprooting, migrant perspectives, structural racism and the empowerment of Black women: as difficult as her themes may be, it all comes together easily in the music of Luedji Luna.
