Mark Lockheart is a leading British saxophonist and composer whose career has helped shape contemporary UK jazz. Known for his work with influential groups including Loose Tubes and Polar Bear, Lockheart has spent decades exploring the possibilities of jazz through composition, improvisation and collaboration. SHAPESHIFTERS continues that adventurous spirit, bringing together musical ideas that resist simple classification.
Lockheart's work draws from jazz while remaining open to rock, folk, contemporary composition and experimental influences. His ability to combine strong melodic writing with adventurous ensemble playing has made him an important voice in British jazz. SHAPESHIFTERS reflects this broad musical outlook, allowing different textures and instrumental personalities to interact within imaginative arrangements.
In concert, MARK LOCKHEART SHAPESHIFTERS places improvisation and ensemble communication at the centre of the experience. Compositions can expand and transform as musicians respond to one another, giving the audience a direct view of jazz as a living creative process. For listeners interested in contemporary British jazz and ambitious live musicianship, SHAPESHIFTERS offers a performance filled with invention and musical possibility.
