Mermaid Chunky are a British experimental duo known for transforming electronic music, performance and playful creativity into an eccentric musical world of their own. Formed by Freya Tate and Moina Walker, the project blends electronic production, vocals, instruments and unexpected sonic ideas, resulting in music that moves freely between dance, experimental pop and psychedelic influences. Their colourful approach makes Mermaid Chunky difficult to categorise and immediately distinctive.
The duo have developed a reputation for treating songs as spaces for experimentation, combining rhythmic electronic elements with unusual melodies, imaginative arrangements and a strong visual personality. Their music can shift from hypnotic grooves to stranger, more abstract passages without losing its sense of momentum. This willingness to follow unexpected ideas gives Mermaid Chunky an adventurous identity within the UK alternative and electronic music landscape.
Live, Mermaid Chunky extend their experimental approach into performance, where music, movement, personality and visual elements can become part of the same experience. Their dance influenced rhythms provide plenty of physical energy, while the unpredictable nature of the arrangements keeps audiences engaged with what might happen next. For fans of adventurous electronic music, leftfield pop and unconventional live performance, Mermaid Chunky offer a concert experience filled with imagination, rhythm and surprise.
