Mizmor is the musical project of American multi instrumentalist and composer A.L.N., recognised for its emotionally intense combination of doom metal, black metal and atmospheric experimentation. Emerging from Portland, Oregon, Mizmor has developed a distinctive identity through lengthy compositions, crushing guitar arrangements and deeply personal themes exploring faith, doubt, suffering and existential reflection. The project's name comes from the Hebrew word for psalm, reflecting the spiritual and philosophical questions that have shaped much of its musical direction.
Mizmor gained recognition within the underground metal scene through releases including "Yodh", "Cairn" and "Wit's End", each demonstrating an ambitious approach to composition and emotional storytelling. The music combines the slow, overwhelming weight of doom metal with the raw intensity of black metal, creating expansive arrangements that move between moments of quiet introspection and explosive heaviness. A.L.N.'s deeply personal songwriting explores the complexities of belief, identity and human experience, giving the project a distinctive emotional depth within extreme music.
Live, Mizmor offers an immersive and powerful concert experience where atmosphere and emotional intensity become central to the performance. Heavy guitar passages, haunting vocals and carefully developed compositions create a sense of tension and release, drawing audiences into the music's reflective and often unsettling world. The combination of musical aggression and personal expression makes Mizmor particularly compelling for listeners who appreciate extreme metal with philosophical depth. For fans of atmospheric black metal, doom and experimental heavy music, a Mizmor concert offers a memorable encounter with one of the genre's distinctive creative voices.
