O.A.R – Of a Revolution are an American rock band formed in Maryland, USA. The band follow an alternative rock style with influences from indie rock. The band grew to success through online distribution of their music at college campus networks. Most of the songs related to experiences at the college and their lives while growing up. The band consists of Marc Roberge on vocals and guitar, Benj Gersham on bass guitar, Chris Culos on drums and percussion, Richard On on guitar and backing vocals and Jerry DiPizzo on saxophone. The band formed in 1996.
In 1997 the four recorded Wanderer, their first studio album before leaving high school and joining The Ohio State University, where they met final member Jerry DiPizzo and then returned to produce their next album Souls Aflame in 2000. The band were unique in that their music was spreading by word of mouth alone. They played any gigs they could: nothing was too small as they tried to increase their exposure all over Ohio. It certainly worked as their third album Risen entered at number 11 on the Billboard Internet Download charts. Their fourth album entered at number 156 on the Billboard 200 and they received many offers from huge record labels but decided to sign with Lava Records as they promised the band they would not try to change them.
In 2005 O.A.R released their fifth album, which had a phenomenal response. It entered at number 40 on the Billboard 200 charts. Love and Memories, a single from the album, was frequently played on the radio -the first radio airplay for O.A.R. Other singles were played on MTV and VH1. On the January 14 2006 they reached a new high as they performed in Madison Square Garden in New York City: O.A.R tickets had sold out completely to 18,000 fans. The performance earned the group a review in the New York Times.
In July 2008 the band released their sixth album All Sides. During the O.A.R: All Sides tour the album was released on a USB wristband complete with live recordings of their performed concerts.
