Obongjayar is a Nigerian born, London based artist whose distinctive music brings together elements of alternative music, electronic production, soul, hip hop and sounds influenced by his Nigerian heritage. Born Steven Umoh, he has developed a unique artistic identity through his unmistakable vocal delivery, rhythmic experimentation and emotionally direct songwriting, establishing himself as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary British music.
His releases have demonstrated a willingness to move freely between genres rather than settle into a predictable formula. The acclaimed album "Some Nights I Dream of Doors" expanded his reputation for adventurous songwriting, while collaborations with artists including Little Simz and Fred again.. have introduced his distinctive voice to an even wider audience. Songs such as "adore u" have further demonstrated his ability to bring individuality and emotional depth to contemporary electronic music.
Obongjayar concerts translate this genre crossing approach into an intense and expressive live experience. His distinctive voice, physical stage presence and rhythmic music create performances capable of moving between intimate reflection and explosive energy. For audiences interested in forward thinking music that connects different influences without losing its individual character, seeing Obongjayar live offers an opportunity to experience an artist who consistently avoids easy categorisation.
