Ocean Colour Scene are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1989, emerging from the ashes of several local groups including The Fanatics. The core lineup of vocalist and guitarist Simon Fowler, guitarist Steve Cradock, bassist Damon Minchella, and drummer Oscar Harrison came together in the early 1990s, initially struggling to find commercial success. Their self-titled debut album in 1992 failed to make a significant impact, and the band was dropped by their label, leading them to regroup and refine their sound throughout the mid-1990s.

The band's fortunes changed dramatically when they became associated with the Britpop movement and formed a close friendship with Paul Weller, who became an important mentor and collaborator. Their 1996 album "Moseley Shoals" became a breakthrough success, reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and spawning hit singles like "The Day We Caught the Train," "The Circle," and "You've Got It Bad." This album established their signature sound—a blend of 1960s-influenced British rock, soul, and psychedelia that set them apart from many of their Britpop contemporaries. Follow-up albums "Marchin' Already" (1997) and "One from the Modern" (1999) continued their commercial success, both reaching number one in the UK.

Throughout the 2000s and beyond, Ocean Colour Scene maintained a dedicated fanbase despite reduced mainstream visibility, continuing to release albums and tour regularly. While the band experienced lineup changes, including Minchella's departure in 2003, they've remained active with Fowler and Cradock as constants. Known for their energetic live performances and workmanlike approach to rock music, they've released over a dozen studio albums and remain respected figures in British rock, particularly admired for their musicianship and commitment to a classic, timeless rock sound that draws heavily from 1960s mod and psychedelic influences.
