Our Man In The Field is the musical project of British singer songwriter Alex Ellis, whose reflective songs blend Americana, folk and roots music with intimate storytelling. Inspired by observations of people, places and everyday experiences, Ellis creates character driven songs filled with warmth, melancholy and carefully crafted detail. His understated vocals and melodic arrangements give Our Man In The Field a timeless quality, appealing to listeners who appreciate thoughtful songwriting and atmospheric acoustic music.
The project has developed through releases including the album The Company of Strangers, which introduced a wider audience to Ellis's distinctive approach to storytelling through song. Our Man In The Field draws inspiration from the traditions of classic singer songwriters while maintaining a contemporary identity, combining acoustic instrumentation, country influences and subtle arrangements. The songs often unfold like short stories, allowing characters and emotions to emerge naturally through the lyrics and music.
In concert, Our Man In The Field places songwriting and musicianship at the centre of the experience. The intimate character of the material translates naturally to the live setting, where delicate arrangements, expressive vocals and carefully observed lyrics can connect directly with the audience. For fans of Americana, folk and narrative songwriting, an Our Man In The Field concert offers an absorbing evening built around stories, melodies and the enduring appeal of songs performed with honesty and restraint.
