Paul Rodgers appeared on the scene in 1968 as a singer/songwriter for the band Free. In 1970 their hit All Right Now went was successful in both the US and the UK, propelling Rodgers and his band to the forefront of British blues and rock alongside Led Zeppelin. They released four top five albums: Fire and Water, Free at Last, Heartbreaker and Free Live!. All Right now was their highest charting single, reaching number two in the UK chart.
In the early 70s, Free split and Paul formed the supergroup Bad Company with Simon Kirke (drummer, Free), Mick Ralphs (guitarist) and King Crimson (bass). They had great success in the 70s with singles such as Bad Company, Can’t Get Enough and Feel Like Making Love. They released 12 studio albums including their eponymous debut, which went to number one in the US and number three in the UK; Straight Shooter (UK and US number three); Run with the Pack (UK number four, US number five); Desolation Angels (UK number 10, US number three) and more. Bad Company tour tickets were extremely popular around the world.
Paul Rodgers left Bad Company in 1982 to focus on his family. In 1983 he released his first solo album, Cut Loose, on which he composed all the music and played all the instruments. The album wasn’t a success but it wasn’t a failure, either. In 1991 he formed The Law with former The Who and Faces drummer Kenney Jones, and their single Laying Down the Law went to number one on the Billboard chart.
His Grammy-nominated solo album Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters came out in 1993. He wrote the title track and worked with Brian May, Gary Moore, David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, Steve Miller, Buddy Guy and more. In 1999, he reunited with his Bad Company bandmates and Bad Company tickets sold out for their tour of the US.
In 2000, he began to focus on his solo career. His sixth solo album was called Electric, and the single Drifters did well on the radio across the US and the UK. Paul Rodgers tickets sold out in England, Scotland, Australia, the US and Canada. In 2001 another Paul Rodgers tour took place and in the summer another Bad Company tour took place.
In 2003, he embarked on 25-date solo tour in the US. Paul Rodgers tickets for this tour were popular again and he was invited to record I Told the Truth for Jools Holland’s Small World Big Band. This led to two sold-out nights at the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2004, he joined Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen for the Queen & Paul Rodgers tour in 2005 and 2006. In 2006 Paul Rodgers tickets for another solo tour were sold out. He has continued to tour frequently as a solo artist and also with Queen and Bad Company.
