Peter Michael Tong MBE, born on July 30, 1960, is an English disc jockey renowned for his influential role in the electronic music scene. Currently working for BBC Radio 1, Tong hosts programs such as Essential Mix and Essential Selection, earning acclaim as the "global ambassador for electronic music." Beyond radio, he is affiliated with the record label FFRR Records and performs at nightclubs and music festivals.
Tong's association with the phrase "It's all gone Pete Tong," a rhyming slang for "it's all gone wrong," originated in 1987, attributed to Paul Oakenfold. This phrase inspired the title of the 2004 film "It's All Gone Pete Tong," depicting a fictional DJ's realization of becoming deaf. Tong himself briefly appears in the film. Notably, he adopted this expression for his club night at Pacha in Ibiza and his radio program on iHeartRadio's "Evolution" EDM format platform in the United States.
Born in Dartford, Kent, Tong's early interest in music began with drumming before transitioning to DJing.
