Plaid & NikNak brings together two distinctive forces in British electronic music for a live experience built around adventurous sound, rhythm and experimentation. Plaid, the electronic duo of Andy Turner and Ed Handley, have played an important role in British electronic music for decades, developing a detailed and melodic sound closely associated with the influential Warp Records catalogue. NikNak is a turntablist, composer and experimental artist known for using DJ techniques, sound manipulation and immersive audio to explore new musical possibilities.
Plaid have built an extensive catalogue combining intricate rhythms, electronic textures and melodic experimentation, with releases including "Not for Threes", "Double Figure" and "Reachy Prints". NikNak approaches electronic music from a different but complementary direction, using turntables as creative instruments and bringing together elements of experimental music, electronics and improvisation. Together on a bill, the artists represent different generations and approaches within forward thinking UK electronic music.
Live, Plaid & NikNak offers audiences the chance to experience electronic music as something dynamic rather than simply programmed. Detailed production, shifting rhythms, manipulated sounds and immersive textures can take on greater depth through powerful live sound systems and a focused performance environment. For fans of Warp Records, experimental electronica, turntablism and adventurous contemporary music, Plaid & NikNak promises an evening centred on exploration, musicianship and electronic sound.
