Quicksand is a post-hardcore band formed in 1990 in New York City. The band was founded by guitarist and vocalist Walter Schreifels, who was previously a member of the influential New York hardcore band Gorilla Biscuits. Other founding members included bassist Sergio Vega and drummer Alan Cage. Quicksand quickly gained a following with their intense live performances and unique sound, which blended elements of punk, metal, and alternative rock. They released their debut album, "Slip," in 1993, which received critical acclaim and helped establish the band as a major force in the post-hardcore scene. In 1995, Quicksand released their second album, "Manic Compression," which further solidified their reputation as one of the most innovative and influential bands of the era. However, tensions within the band began to surface, and they disbanded in 1999. After a lengthy hiatus, Quicksand reunited in 2012 and began performing live again. They released their third album, "Interiors," in 2017, which was their first new music in over 20 years. Throughout their career, Quicksand has been praised for their intense and dynamic live performances, as well as their innovative approach to blending various musical styles. They continue to be a major influence on modern post-hardcore and alternative rock bands.
