Six60 is a New Zealand pop rock band formed in Dunedin, Otago, in 2008. The band comprises Matiu Walters (lead vocals, guitar), Ji Fraser (lead guitar), Chris Mac (bass guitar), Marlon Gerbes (synthesizer), Hoani Matenga (bass guitar), and Eli Paewai (drums), who departed in February 2024.
The band’s self-titled debut album was released on October 10, 2011, through their label, Massive Entertainment. Produced and mixed by Tiki Taane, the album debuted at number one on the New Zealand charts and achieved gold certification within its first week. Their singles "Rise Up 2.0" and "Don't Forget Your Roots" topped the RIANZ singles chart, achieving double and triple platinum status respectively.
In 2018, Six60 won five Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and were the most streamed New Zealand artist on Spotify. They made history on February 23, 2019, by becoming the first New Zealand band to perform a sold-out concert at Western Springs Stadium in front of 50,000 fans. On April 24, 2021, they held the first concert at Auckland's Eden Park Stadium, also drawing a crowd of 50,000, marking the largest concert of the year and the finale of their Six60 Saturdays tour.
Six60 was formed by students at the University of Otago. They named the band after the address of their house, 660 Castle Street, a place of significant importance to the founding members. In July 2021, the band purchased this house and established four $10,000 performing arts scholarships at the University of Otago.
Six60's debut album went quadruple platinum, with the single "Don't Forget Your Roots" achieving triple platinum status. Other notable singles include the double platinum "Only to Be" and "Rise Up," the platinum "Forever" and "Special," and the gold "Lost."
The band gained further recognition in 2013 with their cover of Rudimental's "Feel the Love" on George FM Breakfast’s 'Damn! I Wish I Was Your Cover' series. Their song "Run for It" was featured in the trailer for the ITV drama series Prey in 2014.
