Slates are an alternative rock band from the outskirts of Leeds. Fronted by vocalist Louis Barnes, the group combine guitar-driven rock with funk and nu-metal influences. Their sound brings together forceful rhythms, prominent riffs and an energetic approach to songwriting, drawing on the band members' shared musical interests and northern English roots.
The band's single Hot Wings marked a new chapter for Slates, bringing their rock and funk influences to the foreground. Produced by Ben Harper at Liverpool's Motor Museum studio, the track showcases the interplay between Barnes, guitarist Joe Briggs, bassist Jude Wales and drummer Cohen Hall. It also became their first release for This Feeling Records in partnership with LAB Records.
Slates have taken their music to festival audiences at events including Isle of Wight Festival, Truck and Y Not. Their headline shows give listeners the chance to hear the band's guitar-led sound in a live setting. For fans of alternative rock with a strong rhythmic edge, Slates bring together riffs, movement and the energy of a band playing together on stage.
