Stygian Bough is the collaborative project of American doom metal artists Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin, bringing together monumental heaviness, atmospheric songwriting and haunting acoustic elements. The collaboration combines the immense, slow moving sound of Bell Witch with the distinctive voice and songwriting of Aerial Ruin, creating music that occupies a compelling space between funeral doom, folk and dark atmospheric metal.
The project was introduced through Stygian Bough Volume I, a collaborative album that expanded the musical relationship between the artists into an immersive full length work. Long compositions, crushing bass, sparse instrumentation and sombre vocals create a carefully developed sense of scale, while quieter passages provide contrast to the overwhelming weight of the heavier sections. The result is music designed for patient listening, where atmosphere and gradual development are as important as sheer volume.
In concert, Stygian Bough transforms this combination of doom and acoustic melancholy into an intense physical experience. Slow rhythms, resonant instrumentation and haunting vocals can fill a venue with an atmosphere that feels both intimate and enormous. For fans of experimental metal, funeral doom and deeply immersive live music, Stygian Bough offers a performance where tension, heaviness and emotional detail unfold gradually and powerfully.
