THE BEAT FEATURING RANKING JNR carry forward the music of The Beat, the Birmingham band known for blending ska, reggae, pop and punk. Fronted by Ranking Jnr, son of original member Ranking Roger, the group bring songs from The Beat's catalogue to audiences while continuing the family's connection to the band. Their music draws on the rhythms and melodies that helped establish The Beat during the UK's 2 Tone era.
The Beat emerged in the late 1970s and released their debut single, Tears of a Clown, on the 2 Tone label in 1979. Their first album, I Just Can't Stop It, followed in 1980 and featured Mirror in the Bathroom. Across their recordings, The Beat developed a sound that brought together Jamaican musical influences, punk energy and memorable pop songwriting.
THE BEAT FEATURING RANKING JNR perform songs associated with The Beat at live shows, celebrating a catalogue that has connected with generations of listeners. Ranking Jnr previously performed alongside his father, Ranking Roger, and continues to bring the band's music to the stage. For fans of ska, reggae and 2 Tone, their concerts offer a chance to hear familiar songs performed live.
