The Divine Comedy is the chamber pop project led by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Neil Hannon, who has fronted the band since its inception in 1989. Originating with early albums like Fanfare for the Comic Muse (1990) and Liberation (1993), Hannon refined his orchestral pop sound on Promenade (1994) and achieved commercial breakthrough with Casanova (1996), featuring the classic single Something for the Weekend.
Over the years, Hannon has continued to evolve creatively, producing albums such as Victory for the Comic Muse (2006), the sport-centric Bang Goes the Knighthood (2010), and Absent Friends (2004) that blend lyricism, orchestration, and character driven storytelling. Beyond albums, his work extends into television and film—the memorable themes for Father Ted and The IT Crowd and original songs for the Wonka film highlight his versatility.
In support of his forthcoming orchestral pop album Rainy Sunday Afternoon, recorded at Abbey Road and set for release on 19 September 2025, The Divine Comedy is touring the UK this October with shows at venues such as Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall, London's Barbican, Brighton Dome, and more. European tour dates, including Paris in March 2026, are also on the horizon.
