The Dunwells are an indie-folk / Americana band from Leeds, England, known for their heartfelt lyrics, strong vocal harmonies, and evocative melodies. Founded in 2009 by brothers Joseph and David Dunwell along with Rob Clayton and Adam Taylor, the band have grown from their folk rock roots into a layered, more expansive sound that blends acoustic authenticity with modern production touches.
They released their debut studio album Blind Sighted Faith in 2012. Produced partly at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in Texas, it introduced the world to songs like I Could Be a King, Follow the Road, Elizabeth, and Blind Sighted Faith, the latter capturing their early themes of hope, struggle, and perseverance. Over time their sound has evolved, incorporating elements of electronics and broader instrumentation while keeping their core of tender storytelling and strong vocals.
Since then The Dunwells have released several albums and EPs including Light Up the Sky (2016), Something in the Water (2019), and the live album Live at Aire Street (2020). Their fourth studio album Tell Me What You Want, released in 2022, has been praised as one of their most creative and personal works yet. Standout tracks from that album include This Is Love, How Will They Remember Us?, Daydreamer and Summertime. Recent standalone singles like Break My Fall have also been embraced by fans and broadcasters.
On stage The Dunwells are known for strong live shows full of intimacy and energy. They have toured extensively in the UK, USA and Europe and supported major acts including Mumford & Sons, Elbow, Tom Jones, Scouting for Girls and Bryan Adams. Their acoustic roots still shine through in many performances, even when playing larger venues, thanks to their tight harmonies and emotional depth on songs such as Communicate, I Care, and Nothing Left.
In 2025 The Dunwells continue to write, record and perform in their own Leeds studio, Mill Lane. They have a busy live schedule including festival appearances and full tour runs. Audiences can expect a mix of new material, fan favourites from throughout their catalogue, and the warm, melodic sound that has defined their career.
