The Mary Wallopers are a contemporary Irish folk music group from Dundalk, County Louth. The band originally consisted of brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy, along with Sean McKenna. In 2022, they expanded to include Róisín Barrett on bass, Brendan McInerney on drums (later replaced by Ken Mooney of The Urges), Seamus Hyland on accordion (who left in late 2023 to focus on his own music), and Finnian O'Connor on tin whistle and uilleann pipes.
Charles Hendy has noted that the band's primary thematic influence is "reactionary stuff to poverty." They also credit Jinx Lennon as a significant musical influence. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, The Mary Wallopers gained a large following through live-streamed performances from the Hendy brothers' home. In November 2023, the band performed at the 3Arena as part of the Gig for Gaza, alongside artists such as Damien Dempsey, Lankum, Lisa O'Neill, and Pauline Scanlon, raising funds for medical equipment for Palestinians in Gaza.
Their debut album, The Mary Wallopers, has been described as "raucous, fun, and captivating," with influences from The Pogues and Lankum, and the spirit of The Dubliners. Their second album, Irish Rock N Roll, was reviewed by Alan Corr, who called them "Irish trad punks." This album, noted for its bawdy and humorous content, continues their vibrant and lively musical approach.
In addition to The Mary Wallopers, the Hendy brothers perform as TPM, a comedy rap duo known for their explicit political and anti-capitalist themes. TPM stands for "Taxpayer's Money," and they gained prominence in 2015 with their viral song "All the Boys on the Dole."
