The Professionals were a British punk rock band formed in 1979. The group was created by Steve Jones and Paul Cook, both former members of the iconic punk band Sex Pistols. After the dissolution of Sex Pistols in early 1978, Jones and Cook decided to continue making music together and formed The Professionals.

The original lineup of The Professionals consisted of Steve Jones on guitar and vocals, Paul Cook on drums, Ray McVeigh on guitar, and Paul Myers on bass. Their music was a continuation of the punk rock sound that the members had helped pioneer with the Sex Pistols.

In 1980, The Professionals released their debut self-titled album, which received a positive response from critics and fans. The album showcased their raw and energetic punk sound, with Jones' distinctive guitar style and Cook's tight drumming driving the music.

However, the band faced some challenges, including internal conflicts and management issues, which contributed to their breakup in 1982. After the disbandment, Steve Jones pursued a solo career, while Paul Cook joined other musical projects.

In later years, The Professionals reformed with different lineups, and in 2017, they released a new album titled "What in the World." The album featured Tom Spencer on vocals and guitars alongside original member Paul Cook on drums. Despite lineup changes, the band continued to perform and create music in the punk rock vein.

As with any band, The Professionals' legacy lies in their contributions to the punk rock movement and their association with the iconic Sex Pistols. They remain an essential part of the punk rock history and continue to be remembered and celebrated by fans of the genre.
