The Staves, comprised of sisters Emily, Jessica, and Camilla Staveley-Taylor, are an English indie folk trio hailing from Watford, Hertfordshire. They began their musical journey by performing together at open-mic nights hosted by a local pub, The Horns, originally going by The Staveley-Taylors before adopting the name The Staves.
Their early breakthrough came with an appearance on Tom Jones's album "Praise and Blame" in 2010. The trio gained further recognition by supporting Mt. Desolation on their UK tour, and Jessica Staveley-Taylor collaborated with Mt. Desolation on their eponymous album.
In 2011, The Staves released the "Live at Cecil Sharp House" EP and the "Mexico" EP, and they contributed to Fionn Regan's third studio album, "100 Acres of Sycamore." The following year marked their US tour supporting The Civil Wars, and they toured with artists like Bear's Den, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Ben Howard, documented in the film "Austin to Boston."
Their debut album, "Dead & Born & Grown," produced by Glyn Johns and Ethan Johns, was released in November 2012. The Staves continued to ascend in the music scene, touring with Bon Iver and releasing their second album, "If I Was," produced by Justin Vernon, in 2015.
In 2017, The Staves collaborated with the NYC-based chamber music ensemble yMusic on the album "The Way is Read." They joined First Aid Kit on their Rebel Heart tour in 2018.
In January 2020, Emily Staveley-Taylor opted out of touring following the birth of her daughter. The Staves were set to perform at the Glastonbury festival in 2020, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their third studio album, "Good Woman," produced by John Congleton, was released in February 2021, reaching number 13 on the UK albums chart.
In November 2023, The Staves announced their fifth LP, "All Now," marking their first album as a two-piece after Emily Staveley-Taylor's departure. The title track and another song, 'You Held It All,' were released ahead of the album. The announcement showcased their resilience and creative evolution in the indie folk landscape.
