These New South Whales are an Australian punk band known for combining sharp humour, abrasive guitars and an energetic approach to alternative music. Emerging from Sydney, the group have built a distinctive identity through music that draws on punk, post punk and noise rock while refusing to take the conventions of rock culture too seriously. Their combination of irreverence and musical intensity has helped them develop a dedicated audience both in Australia and internationally.
The band have expanded their reputation through releases including "You Work for Us", "I Just Do What God Tells Me to Do" and their self titled album "These New South Whales". Their songs move between jagged guitar riffs, driving rhythms and direct vocals, creating a sound that can be chaotic, catchy and confrontational within the same track. Alongside their music, the group have also become known for comedy and screen projects that play with the mythology and absurdities of life in a band.
Live, These New South Whales channel their personality into performances driven by movement, volume and unpredictable energy. The immediacy of punk provides the foundation, while their sense of humour and distinctive stage presence ensure the experience extends beyond simply reproducing recorded songs. For fans of contemporary punk, post punk and alternative rock, a These New South Whales concert offers a lively combination of sharp songwriting, noisy guitars and unconventional entertainment.
