vanishing twin are a London-based experimental music group formed by singer and multi-instrumentalist Cathy Lucas. The trio of Lucas, drummer Valentina Magaletti and bassist Susumu Mukai create music that moves between psychedelic pop, minimalism, post-punk and electronic experimentation. Their collaborative approach brings together the different musical backgrounds of its members in a sound that is atmospheric, rhythmic and difficult to confine to one genre.
The group's releases include Choose Your Own Adventure, The Age of Immunology and Afternoon X. Across their recordings, vanishing twin combine songwriting with improvisation, unusual textures and sound collage, allowing individual ideas to develop into shared compositions. Their music draws on a wide range of influences while leaving room for experimentation in the studio.
On stage, vanishing twin bring their layered arrangements and collaborative approach to live audiences. Their performances offer the chance to hear the interplay between vocals, percussion, bass and electronic sounds in a concert setting. For listeners interested in experimental pop and psychedelic music, the group offer a body of work that rewards curiosity and close attention.
