The group named We Have Band established themselves in 2006 in London. They were a trio of former EMI employees - two men, and a woman who happens to be married to one of them. There is Darren Bancroft who is responsible for vocal and drums, Dede W-P, who again takes on vocals and drums, and husband Thomas W-P, who is on vocals, guitar, bass and programming.
In 2009 the band won Glastonbury Festival’s 2009 Emerging Talent Contest, bagged themselves a record deal, and after months of hard graft they hope that the launch of their debut album will prove that the critics were right.
The band announced that their debut album, WHB, would be released in early 2010, and that a track from the album, Divisive, would be released as a single. Another album track, Honey Trap, with its distinctive robo-disco beat, was made available as a free download.
The album opens with the track Piano, a surprise to anyone familiar with the band’s style and previous output. It is a smooth, down tempo track that is at odds with the energy of the rest of the album. A piano intro transcends into another similarly paced track, Buffet. The rest of the album is what we have come to expect from We Have Band, foot thumping and fun with synthesisers, baselines and pounding drum machines. It is high-octane stuff that grabs you and throws you out onto the dance floor.
The band released a self-titled EP last year in the US that included a cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ West End Girl. The other three tracks were Hear It in the Cans, Oh!, And You Came Out.
