Kendal is a short distance from the West Coast Main Line railway station at Oxenholme. The Lakes Line (branch line) connects to Kendal railway station which is within easy walking distance of the Brewery.
Approx times by train to Oxenholme: Lancaster - 15 minutes Preston - 25 minutes Manchester - 60 minutes London (Euston) - 2 hours 45 minutes
There are taxis and regular buses from Oxenholme Railway Station to Kendal town centre and the Brewery (approx 5 minutes journey). The Lakes Line also connects Oxenholme to Staveley and Windermere (The Lake District).

By road
The Brewery Arts Centre is only 10 minutes from Junction 36 of the M6 Motorway. Kendal itself also sits on the A6 and A591 roads. There is ample parking at the Brewery and at various locations nearby in the town (within 5 - 10 mins walk).
Parking
Our car park is an important asset for the Brewery. In addition to providing a service for our customers, the income raised from our car park goes to directly support our artistic programme. This is something which, as a registered charity, we depend upon greatly.
The car park is located on our site and on the same level as the main entrance.
Our current parking charges are: Up to 1 hour £1.20 Up to 2 hours £2.20 Up to 3 hours £3.10 Up to 4 hours £4.00 24 hours £7.00 6:00pm - 9:00am £1.20
Designated disabled spaces are available and, on prior arrangement, assistance can be given to aid transfers from car park to the venue. Visitors with a valid Disabled Blue Badge can park free for up to 3 hours in designated disabled bays.
Motorcycles may be parked for free in designated motorcycle spaces.
Our machines only take coins in the following denominations: 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 NO CHANGE IS GIVEN
We are unable to guarantee that there will be space in the car park at any time. Should you be unable to find a parking space, there are a number of car parks located close to the Brewery:

All car parks listed are within five minutes walk. There are other car parks in the town all within ten minutes walk of the Brewery.
PLEASE NOTE: South Lakeland District Council parking enforcement officers patrol our car park daily. Any fees for unpaid parking tickets will be administered through them.

History of the Brewery
The Brewery Arts Centre opened its doors in 1972, when the premises was converted from the old Vaux Brewery, hence the name.
Whitwell, Mark and Co ("The House of Whitwell") established a wine business on this site in 1757, with cellars said to hold over 40,000 gallons of wine and in 1853, the company built a new ale brewery in the garden of the Georgian town house that still fronts the Brewery on Highgate.
By 1900 Whitwell Marks' Kendal was one of the town's largest employers and best known industries.
In 1946 the firm was taken over by Vaux Breweries of Sunderland and in 1971, when they relocated the offices, the town house became a Youth Hostel and the industrial buildings began the conversion into the Brewery Arts Centre as we know it.
Since 1972 the Brewery Arts Centre has hosted thousands of exciting and vibrant artistic events with many famous names gracing the stages of the Malt Room and Theatre performance spaces. The Brewery has also evolved to become one of the most important education centres for the arts in the North West with and extensive programme of arts based learning for youth and adult learners.
The Brewery gardens are the last remaining of many which would once have flourished behind the town houses lining Highgate. The steps to the upper garden, leading to the terraced garden have recently been restored to their original grandeur.
'Recollections', a book celebrating the history of Brewery Arts Centre, is available from the Box Office.
A graphic 'timeline' display was opened in the Intro Bar area of the Brewery in Spring 2012, a visual representation of some of the highlights and milestones in the 40 years from 1972 to the present day.

We want everyone to be able to come to the Brewery to enjoy memorable experiences. Our building is very old and unique, however we have made every effort during its development to ensure all areas and activities are accessible to everyone.

Arrival

Space is available near to the entrance for dropping off.
The Building
Automatic doors are in place at the main entrance and the Cinema entrance. All staircases are short, have handrails and are interspersed by landing areas. We have a ramp outside the building to enable visitors to access the cinema and upper levels of the main building externally. The Box Office has a lower surface area for the customers’ convenience.
Lifts
The main building has a lift to all four floors and the cinema has a lift between all three floors. An internal ramp connects the two buildings on level 4. Main Building Cinema L2 U2 3 3 4 4 5
Wheelchair Users
Lifts are available as detailed above. Wheelchair spaces are available in all venues – simply mention when booking a ticket to ensure a space is reserved. Wheelchair refuge areas are designated throughout the venue for evacuation purposes
Toilets
Toilets which have level access and wider doors are in the following locations:
Main Building, Level L2 - Outside the Theatre main entrance. Main Building, Level U2 - Outside the Malt Room (only open when Malt Room events on) Main Building, Level 3 - Outside the Vats Bar and Grainstore Restaurant. Warehouse Café, one level - General toilet. Cinema, Level 3.
Hearing Facilities
Induction loops are in place in the Theatre and Cinema spaces. Please ask for assistance on the door. Theatre – a hearing loop is available by switching a hearing aid to the ‘T’ position. Cinema Screens 1 and 2 – an infrared audio system is available. However customers will need to use our necklace loop for hearing aids to work in the ‘T’ position. A separate headset is available if customers do not have an induction loop compatible hearing aid. Audio description of films shown in cinema screen 1 are available. Please ask for assistance on the door. Some films are subtitled and will be indicated with ‘SUB’ after the title on our cinema information.
Miscellaneous
Visits to the performance venue prior to an event can be arranged with prior notice. Assistance and Guide Dogs are welcome Assistance will be given if requested when queuing. Assistance may be; portable chairs, priority access or the option of moving to a seated area until access is available.
We will seek to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ in order to accommodate any visitor to the centre. Before instigating any adjustments we would consider: the amount of disruption caused by making the adjustment; the amount of time available; the financial implications and the health and safety of others.
