Public transport

By Train

Derby's Railway Station is located just outside the city centre, with 31 fast daily services to London St Pancras, a journey that takes less than two hours. Direct rail services connect Derby with Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Sheffield, Southampton, Plymouth and many other destinations. Derby Train Station is just over one mile away from The Assembly Rooms and Guildhall Theatre, so it is a quick taxi journey.

By Bus

Derby LIVE and its venues are on all major bus routes into the city. Contact Travel line on 0871 200 22 33 formore information on bus services within Derby.

By Air

East Midlands Airport is approximately 20 minutes drive from The Assembly Rooms & Guildhall Theatre and Birmingham International Airport is about a 45 minute drive, providing extensive air links to most European and worldwide destinations.

By road

By Car

The Assembly Rooms is sign-posted on all major road routes. Enter DE1 3AH into your SatNav. Or if coming from the M1, exit at J25, take the A52 towards Derby and follow signs to the City Centre / Assembly Rooms. The nearest car park is the multi-storey Assembly Rooms but this does become full very quickly, other car parks nearby include Chapel Street or Parksafe on Bold Lane.

The Assembly Rooms

Please note that the Assembly Rooms is not a fixed seated venue so the seating may change depending on the performance.

The balcony is not accessible by lift. Please ask for more details at the Box Office at the time of booking.

The Assembly Rooms has 2 auditoria - The Great Hall and The Darwin Suite and can be adapted to accommodate a wide range of seated events.

The Great Hall is the larger of the two and has a maximum seated capacity of approx 1200 in a concert format. The ground floor seats approx 600 including a fixed retractable tiered section to the rear seating 200. The balcony area upstairs has fixed seating for a further 600, but is not accessible by lift.

For rock concerts the lower floor can accommodate 1400 with no seating, with a further 600 seated upstairs.This room can be adapted for conferences/exhibitions and dinner dances.

The Darwin Suite has no fixed seating, but has a maximum seated capacity of 300 with a small stage. For events requiring a larger stage the capacity can be reduced to suit.

For rock concerts this room can accommodate 500. This room can be adapted for conferences/trade fairs and dinner dances.

Our facilities include:

Wheelchair Users
Most public areas of the Assembly Rooms and Guildhall are accessible. Wheelchair spaces are available in all venues, please let the Box Office know when you book so we can allocate your seat accordingly. Please note that at the moment you are unable to book wheelchair seats online. All areas of the venues, except for the balconies, are accessible by lift.

Toilet Facilities
There are Unisex toilet facilities for disabled people in the Assembly Rooms and Guildhall Theatre, that are accessible by lift.

Essential Companion Scheme
We offer a FREE ticket to customers who need someone with them to assist with mobility or guidance. You need to apply to join the scheme (as an individual or an organisation ). Download an application from this page or request one from the Box Office.

Assistance Dogs
Assistance Dogs are welcome at all venues. Please let the Box Office know when you book or at least 24 hours in advance. Our season brochure is available in large print, Braille and audiotape. Copies are available from the Box Office.

Sound System
An infra-red sound system is available in all our auditoria. Please let the Box Office know when you book, as the system only works in certain areas, so we need to make sure your seat is in the right area. Headsets and hearing aid attachments are available for your free use. Even with a digital hearing aid, as with an analogue one, you will still require a headset, neck loop or hearing aid attachment. Please contact the Duty Manager for further assistance. The Box Office TypeTalk number is 18001 01332 255 800.

Signing
Throughout the season we offer a number of British sign language (BSL) interpreted performances, look out for the symbol throughout the brochure and in the diary section. BSL Performance information can also be found at the bottom of the show information on the website. Please let the Box Office know where you would like to sit: directly in front of the interpreter or on the opposite side, looking across the stage/action.

Audio Description
Ideal for blind and partially sighted people, audio description is a form of audio-visual translation, using the natural pauses in dialogue or between critical sound elements to insert narrative that translates the visual image into a sense form. Free touch tours take place around an hour before the performance, with the chance to look closely at the set and costumes and often with a chance to meet some of the actors! Please let the Box Office know if you want to attend the touch tour, tickets are free.
