At The Civic we like to showcase great performances and exhibitions, and we don't let our location or size stop us. We are proudly situated in Barnsley town centre and we feel its important that we bring to Barnsley performances and exhibitions that make a stop in South Yorkshire whilst touring larger towns and cities across the UK and the world.

The Civic was re-opened to the public of Barnsley in March 2009, after being closed for more than 11 years. The new venue is home to The Assembly Room a 264/336 seat performance space, The Gallery@, The Panorama and a variety of studios and workshop spaces which are home to local creative organisations. The Civic also programmes events in the re landscaped Mandela Gardens.
