Disabled Activities
The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) is a programme that supports the fitness industry to become more inclusive, catering for the needs of disabled and non-disabled people alike. Through a range of projects and products the initiative supports facilities to create an inclusive service, increasing participation by disabled people.

The IFI is built around developments in four key areas: accessible facilities, inclusive fitness equipment, staff with appropriate skills and the development of inclusive marketing strategies. The combination of these elements ensures that disabled people should expect a truly inclusive experience when visiting an accredited inclusive fitness facility.

The Sands Centre employs an IFI activator who’s key objective is to increase the awareness and participation of disabled people in our exercise programme and the planning and delivery of the Inclusive Fitness Programme.

A disabled person should expect a first class experience when visiting any IFI accredited site. Our greatest achievement comes from encouraging more people to participate in mainstream activities and classes, seeing the enjoyment and sense of achievement on the faces of the people who did not believe that they could do it… But they did and so could you!

The IFI is a great success and has a positive impact on people using The Sands Centre. We run an inclusive programme, which is well attended, and has increased the number of disabled people using our facilities.
