A Place To Bury Strangers

A Place to Bury Strangers are a New York based rock group who formed in 2003. They are a power-trio comprising members Oliver Ackerm, Dion Lunadon and Jason Weilmeister. The trio mix the musical genres of post-punk, Shoegaze and noise rock. Largely experimental, their music has led to them earning the tag of “New York’s loudest band”. The band are influenced by Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” philosophy and play atmospheric, heavy rock.

A Place to Bury Strangers played their first ever gig in 2003 at the Luxx venue in Brooklyn, New York. Following the success of this show, the trio went on to write and record songs while touring extensively. They also made the decision to concentrate on the volume of their music, putting ‘heaviness’ before the music’s quality. However, the band claim that despite their interest in being as loud as possible, their music is still carefully crafted. A Place to Bury Strangers concerts often attract large crowds of young people in the mosh pit.

A Place to Bury Strangers have self-released many EPs, most notably their Red, Green and Blue EPs. The Red, Green and Blue EPs were colour coded releases and showcase the band’s early loud style. These releases were recorded and released during the early days of their career. It wasn’t until relatively later, in 2007, that they officially signed their first record deal on the back of a napkin. This was following the success the band had had during a show at the Webster Hall where they supported the Brian Jonestown Massacre. With a record deal finally under their belts, they then released their self-titled album to moderate commercial success, but plenty of critical acclaim. Their second album, Exploding Head, was released in 2009. This album preceded the departure of Jono MOFO from the band. The remaining members of A Place to Bury Strangers continued on and began their US tour.
