Petra are a pioneering American Christian rock band whose powerful combination of rock music and faith based songwriting helped shape contemporary Christian music. Formed in Indiana in 1972 by guitarist and songwriter Bob Hartman, Petra developed from their early rock roots into one of the most successful and influential bands in Christian rock. Across several decades, their sound has incorporated hard rock, arena rock and melodic pop influences while maintaining a strong focus on inspirational themes.
Petra built an extensive catalogue through albums including "More Power to Ya", "Not of This World", "Beat the System", "This Means War!" and "Beyond Belief". Over the course of their career, the band received major recognition within Christian music, including Grammy Awards and numerous Dove Awards. Their changing lineups have featured notable vocalists including Greg X. Volz and John Schlitt, while Hartman's songwriting and guitar work have remained fundamental to the Petra sound and legacy.
In concert, Petra combine decades of musical history with the energy of a veteran rock band, giving audiences the chance to hear songs that helped define Christian rock. Powerful guitars, memorable choruses and inspirational lyrics create an atmosphere that can appeal equally to longtime followers and listeners discovering the band for the first time. For fans of classic rock and contemporary Christian music, a Petra concert offers an opportunity to experience one of the genre's most important and enduring names live on stage.
