The Handsome Family, the husband-and-wife duo of Brett and Rennie Sparks, have carved out a singular space in alternative country and gothic Americana with their haunting storytelling and stark, poetic songwriting. Formed in Chicago in the early 1990s and later based in New Mexico, the band became internationally recognised when their song “Far From Any Road” was chosen as the theme for HBO’s True Detective, introducing their dark, desert-tinged sound to a global audience.
