Arrive by Train

The NIA is best served by New Street Station and Five Ways Station, which are both a short distance from the venue.

Once off the Train

Taxi

The NIA is a 5-10 minute journey by taxi from Birmingham New Street. A taxi rank is located directly outside the main entrance to the station.

Walk

The NIA is a 15-20 minute journey on foot from Birmingham New Street Station. Leave New Street Station via the Victoria Square Exit. Cross the road and continue up Pinfold Street to Victoria Square. When you enter Victoria Square (Town Hall will be on the left hand side) follow the signs for Paradise Forum, Convention Centre and National Indoor Arena. Continue towards Central Library and through Paradise Forum (entrance to this Mall is on the left hand side of the entrance to Central Library) and out into Centenary Square. Continue straight ahead through Centenary Square. Turn right just in front of The ICC, when you meet the road turn left and continue down the road where you will come to The NIA on the left hand side.

Driving Here

The NIA is situated in Birmingham city centre; its central location ensures it is at the hub of the UK motorway network. Visitors from any direction can travel to The NIA using the following motorways - M1, M5, M6, M6 Toll, M40 and M42.

The NIA is signposted on motorways and major roads and is marked on most maps. If you decide to travel by car, we recommend that you allow plenty of time for your journey.

Using Sat Nav

If you are using a satellite navigation system please enter the postcode B1 2AA to pinpoint us. Please be aware that the Sat Nav system will not direct you into The NIA car parks. Please follow the clearly signposted directions once in the vicinity of the venue.

There are four car parks located at The NIA. North - King Edward's Road (open 24 hours)

South - Sheepcote Street (open 0645 - 1900, Monday - Friday, extended for events)

West - St Vincent Street (open for events only)

Community Hall - Junction of King Edward's Road and Sheepcote Street (open 0700 - 0000)

Car parking is limited at the venue

Parking Charges

Pay and Display tickets may be purchased from the machines situated on each level. An appropriate ticket must be displayed inside windscreen and the expiry date and time must be clearly visible from the outside.

Community Hall users and short stay customers can park in North Car Park Level 1 for up to 2 hours for just £1, a cost of 50p per hour.

Ticket machines will accept 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins and several also accept payment by debit/credit card. They do not give change but will accept overpayments.

For your assistance, change machines are permanently located near the entrances of both North Car Park and South Car Park.

All charges are inclusive of VAT and apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please note, The NIA is located in a residential area and we would appreciate your co-operation in keeping noise to a minimum when leaving the venue.

Parking for Blue Badge holders

Blue Badge holders are exempt from all charges, provided the Blue Badge is clearly displayed.

Special designated bays have been marked out on Level 11 of South car park that give direct access to The NIA at Concourse level and bays have been reserved on Level 9 North which give ground floor access to the Arena.

Venue

The National Indoor Arena (The NIA) is one of the busiest large scale indoor sporting and entertainment venues in Europe. Since opening in 1991, it has welcomed visitors to over 30 different sports (including indoor rowing!) and an extensive variety of entertainment and music.

The NIA provides a perfect home for indoor sport at every level; its Mondo athletics track is the world’s premier surface and was first used at the European Indoor Athletics in March 2007, an event that attracted a worldwide television audience of more than 160 million. Fourteen world athletics records have been set at The NIA since it opened.

But it’s not just about sport. The multi-purpose arena is as flexible as they come - it can stage concerts, entertainment spectaculars, business conferences and exhibitions. And the adaptable format of The NIA Academy creates a more intimate theatre-style auditorium to accommodate smaller concerts, ballet as well as comedy and theatre.

The NIA has played host to artists such as Price, Oasis, Coldplay and Destiny’s Child, Sir Cliff Richard is a frequent visitor – he has played here over 50 times. Showcasing its versatility, The NIA has hosted many other forms of entertainment including the spectacular Disney on Ice shows, The Lord of the Dance, Cirque Du Soleil and La Traviata.

Access & Parking

All public concourse levels of The NIA are accessible to wheelchair users, via ramps or lifts. Tactile signage is fitted in all lifts at The NIA. Assistance Dogs are welcome at our venues, however we do recommend that they are not brought to concerts or other loud events.

For Health and Safety reasons we are unable to allow people on crutches or wheelchair users onto the Arena Floor during standing concerts.

For vehicles displaying blue badges, parking is free of charge. There are designated parking bays on Level 11 (The NIA Main Entrance is on Level 11) of the South car park, situated off Sheepcote Street. If these parking bays are full, please park on any car park level which has an odd number, where a lift will take you to Level 11 for the Main Entrance. Additional parking is located on level 9 of North car park, off King Edwards Road.

Disabled visitors arriving in vehicles over 2m in height (Minibuses or Ambilifts), will be directed to the Olympian Suite entrance via the VIP ramp situated off Sheepcote Street. Here visitors can disembark, and traffic officers will then direct the vehicle to the nearest parking bay. Please advise Box Office if travelling by Ambilift.

If you are arriving by car or taxi, but do not require parking, use the VIP ramp situated off Sheepcote Street. Access to The NIA is via the Olympian Suite entrance, vehicles then exit via the ramp.

If travelling by public transport, access to The NIA is either by the Olympian Suite entrance or by AF4 door situated off King Edward's Road.

Please check your tickets for the door open time, and arrive in plenty of time. The NIA can be extremely busy before the start of a concert or event.

Community Hall is wheelchair accessible. Community Hall car park is situated off St. Vincent Street where there are designated car parking bays. For vehicles displaying blue badges, parking is free of charge.

Hearing Impairments

An induction loop system is operational in selected seating areas, which can be linked to visitors hearing aids. Customers wishing to utilise this system should inform The Box Office, when purchasing tickets and should contact a steward on arrival at the venue in order to be supplied with the appropriate equipment.

All visitors with disabilities attending concerts are advised to call our Dedicated Ticket Line for disabled visitors on 0844 581 0700 when booking tickets. Our dedicated ticket line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please inform us at the time of booking if you need a wheelchair space or have any special requirements, so that we can arrange for everything to be ready on your arrival. We will also help you find the most convenient seating for visitors with visual impairment.

Assistance dogs are welcome at our venues, but owing to sound levels involved, we recommend that you do not bring Assistance Dogs to concerts or other loud events.

Medical Facilities

The NIA has an on-site Medical Centre with qualified nursing staff. If you require a private area for personal care (eg private changing facilities), please contact our Medical Centre on 0121 200 2202 in advance of your visit in order to discuss your particular requirements.

Medical Emergencies

In the event of a medical emergency please notify a member of Security or any member of staff who will be pleased to help you. Alternatively, call the Medical Centre on 2222 using the internal telephones located inside the main venues.

Wheelchair Hire

If you need a wheelchair and have your own, please bring it with you. We only have a very limited number of manual wheelchairs available for hire free of charge. We strongly advise visitors to pre-book equipment to avoid disappointment by telephoning 0121 200 2000 ext 47106. For any visitors who do not pre-book, remaining stock will be issued on a first come first served basis. Certain restrictions apply however:

Please note that wheelchairs are for use inside the venue only and cannot be taken to car parks. Please note that the intended use of hire wheelchairs is as a shuttle service to your seat from the main entrance and back again. Unfortunately, we cannot allow visitors to keep hire wheelchairs for the duration of the event.

Toilets

The NIA has unisex accessible toilets. These are located by the entrance to Block 2 (next to the Medical Centre) and the entrance to Block 8, both of which are controlled by the is a RADAR key. Please contact one of the stewards in the area for the use of a RADAR key. In addition, within the ladies and gents toilets there are dedicated accessible cubicles, which are signposted accordingly.

Community Hall has accessible toilets. There is also a toilet in both the male and female changing rooms for disabled visitors.
