Adam Richard Kay, born on June 12, 1980, is a multi-talented British individual known for his roles as a TV writer, author, comedian, and former doctor. Growing up in Brighton in a Jewish household, he attended Dulwich College and later pursued medicine at Imperial College London, graduating in 2004. Despite being the son of a doctor, Kay's initial career choice was medicine, and he even performed in medical school shows.

After working as an obstetrics and gynecology junior doctor from 2004 to 2010, Kay left the medical profession due to a traumatic experience during a complicated caesarean section. Following his departure from medicine, he explored other avenues such as music, co-founding the musical comedy group Amateur Transplants. One of their notable works includes the song "London Underground," which gained popularity in the UK in 2005.

Transitioning to writing, Kay achieved significant success with his bestselling book, "This Is Going to Hurt," published in 2017. Based on his diaries from his time as a doctor, the book received critical acclaim and won various awards, including Book of the Year at the National Book Awards. Kay adapted it into a comedy-drama series for BBC One, which premiered in 2022. His second book, "Twas the Nightshift before Christmas," was released in 2019.

In addition to his writing career, Kay has made a mark as a screenwriter, contributing to TV shows like "Crims," "Mrs. Brown's Boys," and "Mitchell and Webb." He has also ventured into children's books since 2020. In 2022, Kay published "Undoctored: The Story of a Medic Who Ran Out of Patients."

Beyond his literary and screenwriting achievements, Kay is an accomplished performer, with sold-out shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and nationwide UK tours. He has won awards for his musical variety acts and has appeared on various radio and TV shows, showcasing his talents as a comedian and entertainer.
