Apparat is the electronic music project of German musician and composer Sascha Ring, born in 1978 in Quedlinburg, East Germany. Renowned for his progression from dancefloor driven techno to ambient, glitch, and IDM styles, he emphasizes sonic texture and emotional depth over rhythmic beats. A co-founder of the Berlin label Shitkatapult, Ring has released critically acclaimed solo albums like Multifunktionsebene (2001), Walls (2007), The Devil’s Walk (2011), and LP5 (2019), the latter earning a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. He also collaborates with Modeselektor under the name Moderat, a project celebrated for its atmospheric and emotive electronic music. Apparat’s music has found a powerful second life in visual media. His track “Goodbye” (featuring Soap&Skin) featured prominently in both Breaking Bad and Netflix’s Dark. Other cinematic works include compositions for films and theatre, such as the acclaimed Venice Film Festival winning soundtrack for Capri–Revolution, emphasizing his versatility as a composer.
