Beverley Knight is one of the UK’s most acclaimed soul, R&B and gospel vocalists known for her powerful voice, emotive delivery and remarkable longevity in music. Hailing from Wolverhampton, she began performing in church choirs and quickly developed a reputation for her stage presence and vocal range. Over her career she has released a series of albums that showcase her versatility—from classic soul and northern soul to disco, gospel and modern R&B.
Her ninth studio album The Fifth Chapter was released on 29 September 2023. It marked her first full collection of original material in seven years. The album reflects a range of influences including disco, funk, gospel, northern soul and big ballads. It features standout singles such as Last One on My Mind, Systematic Overload and Not Prepared for You. The Fifth Chapter came together with the help of top songwriters and producers and celebrates her 50th birthday, with Knight describing it as stepping into a powerful new phase of her creative life.
Prior to The Fifth Chapter Beverley Knight released Soulsville in 2016 which blended original songs and covers of classic soul and blues tracks. Earlier in her career albums such as The B-Funk, Prodigal Sista, Who I Am and Music City Soul each established her as a major force in British soul and R&B. Hits such as Shoulda Woulda Coulda, Come As You Are, Keep This Fire Burning and Greatest Day are among her most beloved.
On stage Beverley Knight is renowned for her commanding live performances. She moves effortlessly between intimate vocal moments and large scale production backed by a full band. Her performances are celebrated for their emotional authenticity and the dynamic energy she brings to every show. She has also built a strong parallel career in musical theatre, starring in productions including Sylvia, Sister Act and The Bodyguard among others, which demonstrates her breadth as both singer and actor.
