Carol Jean Vorderman, MBE (born 24 December 1960), is a Welsh broadcaster, media personality, writer, and Vauxhall brand ambassador. She began her career in 1982 on the Channel 4 game show Countdown, co-hosting with Richard Whiteley until his death in 2005, and continued until 2008 with Des Lynam and Des O'Connor.
Vorderman has hosted other TV shows, including Better Homes (1999-2003) and the Pride of Britain Awards (1999-present). She has guest-hosted shows like Have I Got News for You, The Sunday Night Project, and Lorraine. From 2011 to 2014, she was a presenter on Loose Women.
Vorderman has also competed in reality shows, such as Strictly Come Dancing (2004), I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! (2016, 2023), and The Great Celebrity Bake Off (2020), which she won.
She was honored with an MBE in 2000 for her services to broadcasting and has worked as a columnist and author of educational and diet books. In 2023, she began presenting a show on LBC radio.
Before her television career, Vorderman worked as a junior civil engineer and a management trainee. She was also briefly a backing singer in a pop group and contributed to radio programming. Her tenure on Countdown made her one of the highest-paid women in British television.
