Formed in 1985 in Melbourne, Australia and led by the dynamic and creative New Zealander Neil Finn, Crowded House are one of the most successful Australian bands in the world. The band had the majority of their commercial and critical success in Australia and New Zealand between 1985 and 1996, with plenty of Crowded House tickets selling throughout that decade. They are also known for a significant series of line-up changes over the years, with Finn remaining the main driving force behind the band since its inception.
Their eponymous debut album hit number 12 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart in 1987 and included the hit songs Don't Dream It's Over and Something So Strong. They also achieved significant European and United Kingdom success with their third and fourth albums, including the hits Fall at Your Feet and Distant Sun, which were a contributing factor to the success of Crowded House ticket sales.
The band began to fall apart in 1994 when the founding drummer, Paul Hester, left to spend more time with his family, but he did return for a brief period when the band performed what they considered their final tour. Eventually they disbanded in November of 1996 and the members went their separate ways, with Neil Finn focusing on his solo career, while his brother Tim went on to form the Finn Brothers. Tragically, Hester went on to hang himself in 2005, and in 2006 the band reunited with a new drummer and released their first new album in years, called Time on Earth, selling another round of Crowded House tickets to promote it.
The band’s heyday was definitely in their early years when they recorded their first four studio albums, but since their return the support from their Australian and New Zealand fans have led to the band continuing to put out new material. In April 2009, Crowded House began recording a follow-up album which is going to be called Intriguer. It was recorded at Finn’s private recording studio and featured the entire official lineup, which was the first time that had happened since 1993. Their European and American tour began in May 2010, and they have been including regular updates on Twitter, their website and Facebook, allowing their fans to determine the set list for each individual show. Crowded House tour tickets are available for select performances, depending on where the band is playing in 2010.
