Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, known professionally as Doja Cat, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer born on October 21, 1995, in Los Angeles. She began her music career as a teenager, posting songs on SoundCloud, which led to a recording contract with Kemosabe and RCA Records after her song "So High" gained attention. Her debut EP, Purrr!, was released in 2014.
Doja Cat rose to prominence in 2018 with her viral novelty song "Mooo!" and further solidified her status with her second album, Hot Pink (2019), which included the hit single "Say So," topping the Billboard Hot 100 with a remix featuring Nicki Minaj. Her third album, Planet Her (2021), produced several top ten hits, including "Kiss Me More" featuring SZA.
In 2023, Doja Cat released her fourth studio album, Scarlet, marking a shift towards a hip hop-oriented sound. The album's lead single, "Paint the Town Red," became her first solo number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Known for her strong visual presence, technical rap skills, and viral social media influence, Doja Cat has earned numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award, and was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2023.
