Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), known professionally as Eminem, is an American rapper who has significantly influenced the hip hop genre, especially in Middle America. Recognized as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Eminem has broken racial barriers in popular music and become a symbol of the American underclass's popular angst. His most famous songs include "My Name Is," "The Real Slim Shady," "Lose Yourself," "Not Afraid," and "Love the Way You Lie."

Eminem's career took off with his debut album Infinite (1996) and the Slim Shady EP (1997). Signing with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, he gained mainstream popularity with The Slim Shady LP (1999). His following albums, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002), were both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, with the latter becoming the best-selling album worldwide in 2002. After Encore (2004), Eminem took a hiatus due to a prescription drug addiction but returned with Relapse (2009) and Recovery (2010), the latter being the best-selling album worldwide in 2010. Subsequent albums include The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013), Revival (2017), Kamikaze (2018), and Music to Be Murdered By (2020). His twelfth studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), is set for release in mid-2024.

Eminem was part of the hip hop group D12 and formed the duo Bad Meets Evil with Royce da 5'9". He starred in the 2002 film 8 Mile, with the song "Lose Yourself" winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song. He co-founded Shady Records, helping launch artists like 50 Cent and Obie Trice, and established the Sirius XM Radio channel Shade 45.

As one of the best-selling music artists of all time, Eminem has sold over 220 million records globally. He was the best-selling music artist in the U.S. in the 2000s and placed third in the 2010s. Eminem was the first artist to have ten consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200 and has five Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles. His work, including The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, and "Lose Yourself," has been certified Diamond by the RIAA. Eminem has won numerous awards, including 15 Grammy Awards, 8 American Music Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. He was named "Artist of the Decade (2000-2009)" by Billboard, one of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
