Erika de Casier, a Portugal-born Danish artist, is a singer, songwriter, and record producer known for her unique blend of pop, contemporary R&B, and experimental pop. Born to a Belgian mother and Cape Verdean father in Portugal, Erika moved to Denmark at the age of eight, facing challenges due to her mixed-race background. Her formative years included a transformative period in the United States at age 16 and involvement in her school's choir and band upon returning to Denmark.
Erika's career began as part of the R&B duo Saint Cava from 2014 to 2019. After the duo disbanded, she independently released her debut studio album, "Essentials," in 2019, earning critical acclaim and recognition on various year-end lists. Her musical journey continued as she signed with the British record label 4AD in 2020.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Erika experienced writer's block but found inspiration in the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, leading to the creation of her second studio album, "Sensational." Released in 2021, the album received widespread acclaim, entering the UK Hip Hop and R&B Albums Chart and appearing on year-end lists by notable publications.
Erika de Casier's musical style draws inspiration from the 1990s and early 2000s, incorporating G-funk, bossa nova, breakbeat, and trip-hop. Influences include Avril Lavigne, Brandy, Monica, Craig David, Aaliyah, Sade, and Destiny's Child. She is known for singing, writing, and producing much of her music.
Beyond her solo work, Erika co-wrote songs for K-pop group NewJeans, earning the Danish Songwriter of the Year award at the Danish Music Awards in 2023. Her collaborative ventures extend to a diverse range of artists, showcasing her versatility and contribution to the global music landscape.
