Evelyn Evelyn are a band formed by Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley. Their unusual choice of band name has become the stuff of folklore owing to the history that has been created by the band to explain the unusual name.

It is claimed by Palmer and Webley that the name relates to conjoined twins Eva and Lyn, known as the Evelyn sisters. The duo regularly update their Twitter and MySpace pages with elaborations on this fictional tale. Palmer and Webley also 'act' as the twins. Speaking recently online, Jason Webley wrote, “about a year ago, Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls and Jason Webley received MySpace messages from the most unusual profile either of them had ever seen - conjoined twin sisters, both named Evelyn. Intrigued and charmed, they began corresponding with the twins hoping to lure them into the studio. The result is an EP that sounds like something the Andrews Sisters might have recorded if they had grown up in the circus listening to new wave music.”

The imagination that this band puts into its name is indicative of the creativity that fans can expect from their music and live shows, which has contributed to the sales of Evelyn Evelyn tickets. They have even gone as far as to release a press statement claiming that the conjoined twins are from Western Kansas and, having been orphaned at a young age, they joined the circus. They only escaped from this life when they contacted Jason and Amanda.

This story plays a huge part in the ethos of the band and a graphic novel about the twins is planned.

Evelyn Evelyn released the Elephant Elephant EP back in 2007. This was released on 11 Records, a label owned by Jason. The band only produced 1,111 copies of this EP, which completely sold out. The Elephant Elephant referred to a two-headed elephant called Bimba and Kimba.

The duo were quiet for some time following the release of Elephant Elephant. The long awaited, self-titled Evelyn Evelyn album was released on 30th March 2010 and the upcoming tour will provide a welcome opportunity for fans to savour the spectacle that is Evelyn and Evelyn live.
