Peter Cox and Richard Drummie formed Go West in 1982. They started out with only a publishing deal and a TASCAM Portastudio, but they sought out a producer and recorded two songs without a band or record deal. Their efforts were worth it because the two tracks, We Close Our Eyes and Call Me, led to a record deal with Chrysalis Records within days.

We Close Our Eyes was selected as their debut single in 1985, and it shot straight in at number four in the UK chart. The song also made it into the US chart, and reached number one in New Zealand. The single was succeeded by three more hits: Call Me, Goodbye Girl and Don’t Look Down. Their eponymous debut album drew lots of attention around the world, and they won a BRIT Award in 1986 for Best British Newcomer.

Their third album, Dancing on the Couch, was released in 1987 and made the UK top 20. It spawned hits such as True Colurs, I Want to Hear it From You and The King is Dead, which all performed well, though not quite to the extent that their debut had. Nevertheless, they were established as a killer force in songwriting, with the album gaining a cult status.

1992 saw the release of their US top 10 breakthrough track: The King of Wishful Thinking, which was featured on the hugely popular film, Pretty Woman. The soundtrack sold over 10 million copies worldwide, and their track earned an ASCAP Award in 1991 for one of the most-played songs on American radio. The single was lifted from their fourth album, Indian Summer, which went to number 13 in the UK chart. The follow-up, Faithful, was also popular in the UK, US and New Zealand. Faithful won two BMI Awards in 1992 and 1993.

A greatest hits album, Aces and Kings, was released in 1993. They scored another hit single with Tracks of My Tears, a cover of the Smokey Robinson classic.

Peter Cox decided to pursue a solo career in 1994, and moved to LA. He released two popular singles, Ain’t Gonna Cry Again and If You Walk Away. He has remained based in the US, working on various projects and writing for other artists, as well as releasing his most recent album, Motor City Music (2006).

Go West reunited in 2004 for two sold-out arena tours: the Here and Now tours. They celebrated their 20th anniversary with another tour in 2005, including a sold-out gig at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. They released their album, Futurenow, in 2008, and their latest album, 3D, was released in 2010.
