In Flames is a Swedish heavy metal band formed by guitarist Jesper Strömblad in Gothenburg in 1990. The band's lineup has changed several times, but vocalist Anders Fridén and guitarist Björn Gelotte have been consistent members since 1995. Alongside At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity, In Flames pioneered the genres of Swedish death metal and melodic death metal. As of 2008, they have sold over two million records worldwide.
In their early years, In Flames worked with a varying group of musicians, including many session musicians. By the release of their fourth studio album, Colony (1999), they had established a stable lineup. Their sixth studio album, Reroute to Remain (2002), marked a shift towards a more alternative metal sound, which, while criticized by some long-time fans, broadened their mainstream audience and increased album sales.
Since their inception, In Flames has released fourteen studio albums, three EPs, and two live DVDs. Their latest album, Foregone, was released in 2023. The band has been nominated for ten Swedish Grammis Awards, winning seven, including "Hard Rock/Metal Album of the Year" for Soundtrack to Your Escape (2005), Come Clarity (2007), A Sense of Purpose (2009), and most recently Foregone (2024).
Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, originally formed as a supergroup in Halmstad in 1995. The band was founded by Carcass guitarist Michael Amott and Johan Liiva, both previously of the death metal band Carnage. Over the years, its lineup has included members from notable bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, The Agonist, Nevermore, and Eucharist.
Since their formation, Arch Enemy has released eleven studio albums, three live albums, three video albums, and four EPs. Originally fronted by Johan Liiva, the band's vocal duties were taken over by German vocalist Angela Gossow in 2000. Gossow left the band in March 2014 to become the group's manager and was succeeded by Canadian vocalist Alissa White-Gluz.
Arch Enemy gained early recognition with their debut album Black Earth (1996). Their popularity grew with subsequent albums, especially Stigmata (1998) and Burning Bridges (1999). Their sixth studio album, Doomsday Machine (2005), further solidified their reputation, despite lineup changes. Rise of the Tyrant (2007) became their highest-charting album at the time, debuting at number 84 on the Billboard 200.
Their latest album, Deceivers, was released on 12 August 2022, preceded by several singles including "Deceiver, Deceiver" and "Handshake with Hell." In December 2023, guitarist Jeff Loomis left the band and was replaced by Joey Concepcion.
