Jo Quail is a British composer and cellist renowned for transforming the electric cello into the foundation of powerful and immersive contemporary music. Using looping technology, effects and an innovative approach to composition, Quail builds intricate layers of rhythm, melody and harmony entirely around her instrument. Her work moves between contemporary classical music, experimental sounds, progressive music and heavier influences, creating a distinctive style that has brought her to audiences across a remarkably broad range of musical scenes.

As both a composer and performer, Quail has developed an extensive body of work that demonstrates the versatility of the cello far beyond its traditional orchestral role. Her compositions use repeated patterns, dramatic dynamics and richly textured arrangements to create music capable of moving from quiet, reflective passages to intense and expansive crescendos. Collaborations and appearances alongside artists from classical, progressive and metal backgrounds have further demonstrated how naturally her work can cross established genre boundaries.

Live, Jo Quail constructs complex pieces in real time, allowing audiences to hear individual cello lines develop gradually into vast, layered arrangements. Watching the music take shape adds a visual and spontaneous dimension to compositions that are already rich in atmosphere and detail. The combination of technical precision, experimentation and emotional intensity makes her concerts particularly compelling for listeners interested in contemporary classical music, progressive sounds and adventurous instrumental performance.
