Rob Schneider is an American actor, screenwriter and stand-up comedian from San Francisco in the USA. Schneider found success after working on the NBC show Saturday Night Live before going on to stand up comedy and appearing in cameos in many comedy films.
Schneider was born in California and started his comedy career while he was at high school. He then started playing local clubs and gigs and became a popular guest on many radio shows. He won a place on HBO’s Annual Young Comedians special, and this led him to a job offer as a writer on the late night NBC show Saturday Night Live.
He was hired to join Saturday Night Live in 1988; he started as a writer for the show but then worked his way up until he was a full time cast member. He was best known for his character Richard Laymer on the show, who was an office worker. Rob Schneider was then featured in The Bad Boys of Saturday Night Live with other actors including Adam Sandler and Chris Farley. In the show his recurring characters were Richard Laymer the office worker (who annoyed colleagues by giving them nicknames), Carlo from the restaurant sketches and The Sensitive Naked Man.
In 1994, he left Saturday Night Live and played supporting roles in films such as Demolition Man and Surf Ninjas. He followed with more films but with most did not receive critical acclaim. Schneider then became a director and his directorial debut was in 2008 when he made the film Big Stan.
Schneider has had numerous cameo roles in Adam Sandler’s films; they met while on Saturday Night Live. Schneider has come under huge criticism about some of his films but he is also happy to criticise others. After Mel Gibson made some anti-Semite remarks Schneider confirmed he would not work with Gibson in his films.
