African rap royalty Show Dem Camp, Nigeria’s preeminent highlife ambassadors The Cavemen, and star guitarist Nsikak David continue their “brilliant collaboration” (Clash Magazine), uniting for a live show on Tuesday, November 26th at Here at Outernet London, presented by Communion One.
The performance arrives after the release of their collaborative album No Love in Lagos earlier
this summer, described by critics as “a rejuvenation of one of West Africa’s richest genres”
(NATIVE). A singular collaboration, the album explores the confluences of highlife and hip hop
as well as the complexities of love and life in the fabled Nigerian city. In rapper Tec’s words:
“[We’re] opening a dimension of what potentially African hip hop could sound like. A lot of
times, [in Africa] we lean on popular sounds from the West. Show Dem Camp, we’re Nigerian
rappers, our influences are closer to home.”
The No Love in Lagos live show in London provides an exclamation point on what has been
nothing short of a landmark year. The Cavemen have taken their unique highlife worldwide
with US and European tours. Between hitting the road himself, Nsikak David produced and
played on Tems’ smash album Born in the Wild. Meanwhile, Show Dem Camp took their world conquering Palm Wine Fest to New York with a star-studded lineup including Tems, Adekunle
Gold, Victony, and Ladipoe – The festival series was celebrated in a recent Rolling Stone
Africa feature as “a win for the culture
